Re: A dealer's perspective - life at Oxford H-D

Welcome aboard.
I'm going to be really cheeky now!

Please, please can you let us have a prize or two for our National Rally raffle at Oswestry in August, in return for a mention within the programme etc.

We would be eternally grateful.

Yeah Sue, that'll be OK. Give me a call.

I have many years experience of debt recovery,- & could guarantee nobody would leave the store with a penny in there wallets,- no matter how much they try to resist.

Over the the last two years I've learned many helpfully phrases off the Scottish contingent here, so I know just the right terminology to use if any chancer tries to make a warranty claim/returns goods or such like.

I am perfectly willing to re=train if my skills are a little rusty, or if the requirements for working in a MoCo dealership have changed since my last visit to a store back in the day.

Do I get a black company bike??

Looking to hearing back from you soon. Regards L.V.
Yes, erm, hmm, ah.

Interesting credentials, Sir, but I'm a little unsure if they're commensurate with those that we see as being ideal for the role. We tend to favour a gentle approach, as we've found that threats of massive physical damage tend to give you a great result on the day, but tend not to be too good for repeat business. Most marketing gurus will tell you that finding new customers is very hard compared to keeping those that you already have.

I regret to inform you that only senior Managers get the use of a Company vehicle.

Your application will get due consideration.

with best regards

John Phelan
DEALER PRINCIPAL

Sorry John couldn't resist it.

Again welcome and I'd like to say it's refreshing to see a D.P. here on our site backing your own corner.

As you will appreciate there are a lot of our members that run older bikes and need spares that you would not normally stock that's where some of the criticism comes from with the MoCo dealers around the country.

But keeping a certain expensive spare part on the shelf for years for a Panhead or a Shovel isn't gonna make your bosses rich is it?. That's why a lot of indys have appeared over the years.

Keep up the good work and I'll pop over from Watford soon for the coffee and low cal donuts.

I'm willing to negotiate on the bike if it's a sticking point,- perhaps if I started in the stores I could get it bit by bit.
Thanks Boss see you Tuesday.

Nah, you would TAKE it bit by bit, like Johnny Cash's Detroit auto worker in the classic song One Piece At A Time

Nice one (you never fail to crack me up)......You can come work for me. Do be prepared to be frisked on the way out though. You`ll fit right in with this odd lot!

Spares for older bikes. Yep, the perpetual problem.

OK, what would you guys want us to stock for older stuff? No promises mind!
