| HDRCGB or HOG Dare I ask?
Hi, Not sure I should ask this, but... Is there a thread anywhere discussing why joining HDRCGB is a better bet than being in HOG? And I suppose...Are the 2 mutually exclusive? Since a years HOG membership comes with the bike, I'm already a member, but having found this site I'm wondering... Many Thanks John |

the first clue is in the name, harley OWNERS group, harley davidson RIDERS club. obviously it doesnt apply to all members of both clubs, but a majority from both clubs do pretty much as the name suggests. they own and pose in the dry, maybe doing a 1000 miles in a year before trading up for the newest shiniest model, we tend to ride a bit more and enjoy gettin the bike dirty, and alos acknowledge the fact that there are still harleys older than the twin cam that are not classed as vintage!! ![]() im sure there will be some other more plausable resons too! dan |

| Re: Dare I ask? Hi John, there is no need to be shy about asking questions. You will get direct responses to most questions here. Whether or not you agree with the responses is up to you. Quote:
Certainly not. It depends on your budget and how much you are willing to contribute. This is because you get out what you put in and this club is no exception. For the record, I have belonged to HOG 3 times (of which twice was due to getting a new bike) and I have never once renewed my membership. At no time have I ever worn a HOG badge - this is a purely personal thing based on the fact that I have seen too many poseur knobs wearing HOG regalia and I don't want to be associated with them. I accept that this judgement is very subjective and hard to really justify. No offence intended to anyone who does wear a HOG badge - I fully recognise that there are many Hoggies that are really dedicated riders and who are definitely NOT knobs!Ultimately, the very existence of the Rider's Club is about choice. We are proudly independent of the factory and main dealers, but still love our bikes as much as anyone. One last thought - access to the website of one of the clubs is restricted to members only, whereas the OTHER club opens its electronic environs to all who care to enter. Welcome to this website. I belong to both, this site is more personal and totally approachable, if you have any problems then here is that place to be, Being a member of HOG is good because you can add HOG assistance which can be a lifesaver, and the cost is negligible. Ukkid76 |

I, for one, would never join H.O.G. The majority of their members that I have met (and I used to live near Bridgwater) only seem to be interested in shiny, dazzling chrome and don't have the first idea of how their bikes work. Members of this club seem to be happier to get their hands dirty and to get involved with one another. There is not the mad fight in this club to see who can spend the most getting their dealer to fit Arlen Ness mirrors and the like. Here is a true story for you. A HOG member in Somerset saw a air cleaner cover he really liked, the shop had two in stock, he bought both so no-one else could have one like it. A few weeks down the line he saw a bike with one on, he asked the rider where he got it from, it came from the same shop (In Bridgwater), he didnt realise that, having sold all the stock, the shop would get more in! |

Welcome to the forum Jaybee.....I note you are new so accept it is a very honest query. You will get an avalanche of opinions, I am sure. Some are members of both. I know some very high-miles RIDERS who are members of HOG and enjoy their company. My very simplistic take on it is that we in the Riders Club could not care less how fat your wallet is, how wide your rear tyre is, or how much money you have into your bike. And we LOVE older Harleys too. Take as you find. Enjoy the ride. Personally, this is about the friendliest and best part of living in Britain, this club, but that is just me. |

As with any club it is only as good as its members. I ride with Meridan chapter of Hog and we are out and about most weekends and socialise quite a bit. we have members who were in other chapters who complain that they were very cliquey. Why not try both and if one is better than the other you can drop the one you like least.

Hog v Riders Club mmm..... not that old chestnut.... I joined both & have the best of both worlds I do not see a negative in either club if you bought your bike for what it was intended for... to ride. Whatever you decide remember. Don't ask what the club can do for you, ask yourself what you can do for the club. This seems apt & applies to both clubs. ![]() As always, Riding me bike & having a larf.....

I belonged to HOG for almost 7 years then sold my Harley. No associate membership therefore goodbye bike mates. When I bought my Street Bob I found this website and went along to the Coasters Sunday Brekkie. No hassle with being a newbie, didnt have to be a "rich bloke / poseur" and the social side is probably the most wellcoming anyone will find. ![]() ![]() My sort of club but I suppose it depends on the Chapter you join with HOG ( Hotel only Group ). For the £30 it costs to be a member of HDRCGB you could give both a try
