Re: Riders club or HOG?

From our search Engine http://www.harley-davidson-hangout.c...ifference.html

Personally I would say try both. Maybe you are a HOG member with your bike from the dealer? Even so why not find out where your local HOG's meet and suck it and see. I am sure they would let you in without joining to suss them out. If they didn't they would be daft.

Same applies to us you can go to any regional meets and meet the members there is no secret meetings or rituals....

After you have seen both which could be over the whole summer then you decide. We party and camp at all our rallies they do sometimes but more often go for the log cabin type of accommodation. As do some of our members but we are not run by the MoCo.

We are independent and have been going since 1949 so we must be doing something right.

Willie G came and saw us in the eighties BEFORE HOG was formed.

Harley-Davidson Riders Club of Great Britain

Harley-Davidson 2004 Heritage

The Harley-Davidson Riders Club of Great Britain (est 1949) was the first British riders club (as opposed to motorcycle club) and organized national rallies and ride-outs from the outset. The 1982 rally began a popular run of events, probably due to the good fortune of having William G. Davidson attending his first rally outside the USA, in Great Britain. He is thought to have been more than curious to discover how the secret "Evolution Motor" had found its world exclusive on the cover of the spring edition of the HDRCGB magazine, the "Harleyquin", but having a forgiving nature, Willie G. returned in 1984, along with Vaughn Beals and Len Thomson to officially show off the Evolution engine by bringing a test ride fleet to the second Brighton International Super Rally run by H.D.R.C.G.B.. The demonstration rides were the first at any European Rally.
The club now has circa 1800 members throughput the U. K. U.S.A. and Europe not forgetting their founder member in Australia. The club is split into regions and most hold rallies during the summer culminating in the clubs International Rally.

Harley Owners Group

Harley-Davidson established the Harley Owners Group (abbreviated H.O.G.) in 1983 in response to a growing desire by a new breed of Harley riders for an organized way to share their passion and show their pride. In 1991, H.O.G. went international, with the first official European H.O.G. Rally in Cheltenham, England. [55] Today, more than one million members and more than 1400 chapters worldwide make H.O.G. the largest factory-sponsored motorcycle organization in the world. [56]
H.O.G. benefits include organized group rides, exclusive products and product discounts, insurance premium discounts, and the Hog Tales newsletter. A one year full membership is included with the purchase of a new, unregistered Harley Davidson. [57]

And from that first link I gave you from Clive Frog, asking the same question as you, here is what he had to say later

I thought it would be rude of me not to thank every one who has helped in my technical endeavours in the past few months and that I hope to meet a few of you at future rallies.

As I'm nearest to region 19, I hope to be contacting you soon.

Since moving from sports bikes to buying a year old springer classic last September I've already spent a fortune on it just by tinkering and doing all my own spannering. At the moment the bikes about to get adjustable push rods and a true dual exhaust so I seem to be missing out on the fun at this years New Forest rally just down the road from me.

Oh well there's always next year...........

Re: Riders club or HOG?

It might just be me, but I've never understood any difference between a 'motorcycle club' and a 'riders club' - or is this just one of those 'imported American terminology' things?

Without the whole tread being hi jacked and going into a disscussion on different types of clubs let's nip it in the bud now eh?

You are correct there is no difference with a Riders club and a MCC.

There are a great many clubs for motorcycle riders who refer to themselves generically as motorcycle clubs. Though they are grammatically correct, these clubs are not MCs in the strictest sense of the term, and members of MCs, i.e clubs who wear an MC patch, regard these other clubs as motorcycle riding clubs.

Here in the UK they/we are designated as MCCs

Can we PLEASE keep to the original question posted, if you have any other thoughts than what I posted please answer the question why join our club.

Mind it would help when answering if you are a club member.

Baza, you forgot to point out that we work out as cheaper over the course of the year as you don't have to buy as many badges

Re: Riders club or HOG?

Think Baza has got it right. Try before you buy.
I did and here I am but still get invited and go to the odd HOG event by friends who are in New Forest and Surrey chapters.

I suppose the only answer to that, is that I left the HDRCGB a long time ago because I was unhappy with the increasing Americanisation of the club's structure and attitudes. Quite a few people felt the same way.

I moved across into a context where the question doesn't arise, and where I can get my ACU licence signed, and I've stayed there ever since. The VMCC is called VMCC because that's what it's always been. The FGTRC is called that because it's a Grass Track Racing Club, and so on. I've got a few odd badges on my leathers from meetings I've ridden in, and a BMF Rally badge I bought in 1978, and that's about it. I've got a set of Harley wings on one sleeve of my jacket that I bought at Fred's in the 1970s, and that's the lot, pretty much

bikes are something I do when I have some time. They aren't my life.

HOG is an irrelevance to me because I've never bought a new Harley in my life and don't expect I will now

Never really happened Mate, apart from some irritating linguistic bits of nonsense, like referring to "Ride Outs" the Club has managed to stay British in character. Pop along to a Rally or Region Meeting, I'll buy you a pint and you can tell me how American I've become.
