Anyone going to Faaker See???

Hi All

The girlfriend and I are going to ride to Austria this year for the European Bike Week in Faaker Sum See. Was wondering if anyone else will be going, perhaps we could meet up?

Good riding to all.

Re: Anyone going to Faaker See???

There may be a few, but seeing as we are not HOG and it is an official rally of the Harley Owners Group, we may be getting ready to do our own Rally at the 25th Anniversary of The Essex Poker Run in Mersea Island.

Plus it's just after our very own International Rally in Oswestry.

You do realise that we are a different club to H.O.G. don't you?

BTW Blenk is from the Jersey C.I. send him a pm.....

Re: Anyone going to Faaker See???

European Bike week is not all about HOG. It's true that there are more Harleys than anything else and playing "spot the Honda" is a difficult game.

Certainly there is a full blown "HOG" event at Faaker See, but there are also a number of other events around the lake which are not HOG.

Away from the Harley Village (downtown HOG heaven) you will find top European bike builders and all the aftermarket parts suppliers; mainly at the Corinthian/Camping Arnetz show. One place not to miss is the Jagermiester camp if you don't miind getting a hangover.

It's a spectacular event. I have been twice and will be going again this year. It is well located for trips into Slovenia and Italy.

Arrive before the Wednesday if you want to choose where to camp, after Wednesday its a case of wherever you can fit. The parade is on the Saturday;which is very Hoggie but is an experience none the less.

Go and see it, you might hate it, you might love it. I never thought I would want to go more than once.

Harley-Davidson Europe announces a host of exciting events for 2008 to celebrate 105th anniversary of Harley-Davidson and 25th anniversary of the Harley Owners Group

For the 11th year in succession, Faaker See in Austria will once again play host to Europes biggest open and free biker festival, European Bike Week. From 2 September, riders from all over Europe and beyond will be turning the province of Carinthia into a massive celebration of the Harley-Davidson way of life. The event once again promises entertainment, events and activities to suit everyone, amid some of the most breathtaking scenery and riding roads to be found anywhere in the world.
Finally, the celebrations come to a climax between 25th and 27th September in the beautiful setting of sophisticated, chicLake Garda, northern Italy, with the 17th Annual European H.O.G. Rally, the official European celebration of 25 years of the Harley Owners Group. This stunning location last hosted a major H.O.G. event in 1996 and proved a massive hit with all who attended. Around 15,000 people will enjoy 25 years and 105 years of H.O.G. and Harley-Davidson respectively.
At each event, visitors will experience a real carnival atmosphere with each event having its own unique flavour and atmosphere. There will be something for every taste, from stunt shows to live music, custom bike shows, to demo rides on the latest Harley-Davidson and Buell motorcycles - not to mention the company of fellow Harley riders.
One aspect guaranteed to be enjoyed by all are the celebrations that come with 105 years of Harley-Davidson and 25 years of H.O.G. 2008 is going to be such an important year for us and for Harley-Davidson as a whole, and we are going to mark the occasion with our most exciting line-up of events yet, said Nigel Villiers, director of the Harley Owners Group Europe, Middle East & Africa. Is Elton John at Bike Week? Result!! So I guess that's a no from you to the question originally posted?

"The girlfriend and I are going to ride to Austria this year for the European Bike Week in Faaker Sum See. Was wondering if anyone else will be going, perhaps we could meet up?"

Back to the thread.

You can look for Karen and I at Camping Arnetz. We'll be hanging out with the other weekend warriors, comparing badges and admiring each others latest shiny bits. Might even get the bike out of the enclosed trailer and start it up as long as there's no interference with the satelite reception on the external mount 42" plasma TV on our 45ft RV.

After Bike week we will be taking off our HOG regalia donning leather cowboy hats and HDRCGB regalia and heading off to Spain for the 25th anninversary of Big-Twin Espana just so that no-one is in any doubts as to which club we are members of.

Comparing a rally in Essex to an international gathering in the Austrian lakes is misplaced (no disrespect intended to Essex). The Austrian event has grown to become a major deal and is well worth investigating. Top marks to Girlyglide and Karen for being willing to BOLDLY go where no man has gone before.

There is a huge choice of events all across Europe and we should all try as many as we can, so that we can be well informed about the best ones to attend and be in a position to recommend them to others.

Well said.

I would also like to add that for me, and I am sure for some others too, it is the ride to these alternative venues, that makes the whole thing worthwhile.

Re: Anyone going to Faaker See???

Simon makes a very valid point about it being the ride ... and so does Girlyglide. I have been twice in the last 5 years, and would love to go every year. But I have to share those holiday dates with my boss who goes to a Rockabilly Rave in Barcelona and he pulls rank .

Great venue around the lake, fantatistc scenery on the ride to Austria and excellent rides into Slovenia with 6 course lunches... perfect. If you have never been then you need to go once to experience it, it is really worth the trip, loads of bike and lots going on ... better then any HOG rally and its free.

If you want any info on the European Bike week then please feel free to PM or e-mail us and we will help where we can.

We travel alone, it's a personal thing, but would obviously be willing to meet up with you whilst there. We normally hang out with a bunch of Germans but after enough beer we all perfectly understand each other.

Re: Anyone going to Faaker See???

I also have to say it's a great event and well worth going to. It's a long, but can be a spectacular, ride from the UK across the Alps.

I have to also say it's not a Hog rally, Harley lay on the H-D Village, which includes bands and entertainment through the day and evening but is open to all and is all free!

Also as said by girlyglide there is effectively another rally down the road at the Arnetz camp, plus a couple of smaller events in the vicinity.

I would go back again when I can fit it in.
