Re: bought myself an Aussie shovel...

Incidentally you are missing a disc from the front

how does it ride in comparison to your old Evo

Re: bought myself an Aussie shovel...

Thanks Andy, years of training on my 85 FXEF always lead me to switchgear in such times! It's happened to me before like that. Either that or a loose connection...

And good spot on the disc....yes it has the orig 2disc sliders...but i am not too bothered. I did test ride an over-priced and under-paperworked Sturgis a few weeks back and the double discs were GARBAGE.

The FXWG front brake is like concrete to get a stop with, i will change the pads and fluids...

There's not too much difference in ride quality cos of course my Evo is a solid-mount FX as well, and with the Evo's ''much shorter than stock'' shocks set to max pre-load after a whole lowering exercise at the back years ago, it always rode a bit like a rigid! I won't be dicking about with this bike too much, I don't want to interfere with riding time. Just a few cosmetics, honest..... ahem.

thanks Dan. appreciate that mate....if I get too closely attached I might have to consider that, but leaving it in Melbourne next year will give me bike options both here and in NZ for several holidaying years to come, for various ''swapping with a mate'' reasons, and that works for me.

sorting out the niggles and personalising it is all part of the "experience". Enjoy!
You bet Boris! Can't wait. I am back in the UK for a fortnight early August and will be bringing a stack of my tools back down under to tear into it properly. At the moment I have just a Leatherman and a MagLite down here

Nice one Dave.... hope things are well.
The FLH had a couple of degrees less rake than the other models...which would bring the forks back in a tad and make the steering a little quicker.
Funny though, most people over here go the other way to extend the look.

Re: bought myself an Aussie shovel...

you don't want the original 10" discs and the original calipers - they are f***ing useless

the later brakes, whilst still not that great are a vast improvement over the earlier brakes
