Mr Fred Warr

Just read the Quin and there is a very cheery letter from Fred Warr published.

Now, not to be too negative, but I am familar with motor neurone disease as my mum and her two sisters were both afflicted and subsequently claimed by it.

It traps a sharp mind in an eventually useless body.

I was thinking, and judging exactly as editor Andy wrote in his reply, that Mr Warr has published his email address and his fax number because he might appreciate some mail. I know that my mum loved getting mail when she was struck down by it because she could not speak either.

I have every intention of sending Mr Warr a few lines by email and perhaps you might care to as well. (For instance, my bike has had only one previous owner and it was he whom Mr Warr sold it to in 1985. My guess is that there were only 2 or 3 FXEFs sent to the UK that year so he may even recall mine....)

UNLESS someone high-up in the club has inside knowledge and advises against, perhaps a few emails really might bring some cheer to a founder of the club and, in my very few encounters with him way back when, a damn good bloke.

Just a thought. I was really touched by his words.

Dave

Re: Mr Fred Warr

Just lost my father in law to MND last month and agree - whatever can be done to brighten the day should be done, whilst there is still an opportunity to do so.
Perhaps we should put something in this thread, or start a more poitive thread, which could then be forwarded so that the sentiments are there but an overloaded e-mail in box isn't.

Spot on, I reckon, Sue.

And my sincere condolences.

I think it could go anywhere where the most people who can add something will see it.

Thought you may have wanted it for club members only as it was in the club quin?

Re: Mr Fred Warr

I read Fred's letter with great interest and sadness that such a debillitating illness has struck Fred. If you do read this thread, I would like to send you my best wishes and should you ever need a WLC to tinker on there's one waiting in my garage with plenty to go at! All the best.

Re: Mr Fred Warr

I too read Fred's letter in the 'Quin and emailed him with some photo's of myself and my grandson Matt on my 1930 VL, loaded and ready to set off for the recent AMCA European Chapter meet in Dinkelsbuhl, Germany. I asked him at the same time if he'd be up for overhauling my 32E generator.

I received a lovely long reply, just day or two later, full of memories, kindness and positive plans for the near future. We all know about MND and what it does to a person, but it seems to me that Fred is making thebest of the time he has and yes, I'm sure he'll be delighted to read news from club members.

Hell, he's even undertaken to sort my generator next January, once he's gotten toside of his current workload. I' LOVE to have part on my old VL that had been reathed on by te legendary Fred Warr.

G'wan, drop him a line and get him some work plans for the next twelve months. He won't have time to be poorly then.
