Spain Trip

Am heading off on Sunday, on the Plymouth-Santander ferry returning a week Thursday. Have got a route down to Ronda planned but havent done the final leg before.

Does anyone know of a "must do" road between Cordoba and Ronda? I've looked through http://www.bestbikingroads.com/ and there is nothing specific listed. Does anyone have any first hand knowledge? I know it is easy to get between the two places, its is purely a matter of finding something a bit special if possible.

Planned so far:-
Santander->Burgos - N623
Burgos->Salamanca - A62
Salamanca->Cordoba - N502
Cordoba-Ronda - unknown

The return leg is being planned by someone else and is taking a different route.

Re: Spain Trip

Depends how much of a detour you want. The road from Zafra down to Huelva is a cracking mountain road for bikes. It's part of the ratrun down to the Faro rally.
Was at Ronda in April. There's a tourist mountain road down to Alhaurin el Grande which is quite pleasant but nothing like as good as the Zafra mountains.

Aye a great road but not for the faint hearted. If you take this road DO NOT be lulled into a false sense of security near the end as it has been known to bite. Tell all to ride at their own pace, No need to keep up as you cannot get lost. and there is a bar just over the auto via at the bottom end.
Have a safe run and I hope weather is at its best. (Drink lots of water and when you have had enough, drink some more.)

Re: Spain Trip

Hi Simon
We are on that ferry on Sunday but we are turning left at Santander and heading for France. I will look out for you. We have a yellow wide glide and a blue sportster. Enjoy your trip and hope the weather is good.

Re: Spain Trip

Thank you for your responses. We've been reading about several of the routes near Ronda and hope to get a few of those in as well.

The route to/from Huelva may be worth exploring, I'll see what the others think.

Iain, it would be good to catch up for a beer on the ferry. I've got a scruffy black FXDX and my mate is riding a black Triumph Legend. Have a good time in France. As for weather, well, anything has got to be better than here, hasnt it. Which way across and up are you going? Have done that run, several times now. The last time was with the same mates I'm going with this time.

If anyone is going out on the Wednesday ferry, the third member of our party will be riding an '07 black/red dyna custom and sitting in the bar on his own before heading down to meet us. He might need a can of Red Bull because he is doing Santander to Ronda in one day, meeting us on the Thursday night.

Re: Spain Trip

Yes plenty of time for a beer. We are heading to Lourdes to explore the pyrannees for a few days via San Sebastion then onto Agen, Cognac (they might have some drink worth trying), Angers and a few days in Brittany before back via Roscoff. We have explored bits of Northern France but wanted something more adventurous. Spain sounds like it would be fun to explore in the future. Will pm my no.

Re: Spain Trip

Hi Essjay. I remember you saying a while ago you were off to Spain in September. I thought you were on a different crossing. See you at the port or on the ferry in the bar.

Hi Essjay be good to see you over a beer. I will only recognise you if you wear that tricorn hat from the cornish cream but I remember the bike! Lets hope we all get some sun at last.
