Licence only good for 10 years

I didnt know this, but its true. You photocard licence is only good for ten years, then has to be renewed ayt a cost of £17.50. Yet another stealth tax

Re: Licence only good for 10 years

Unfortunately to say this was kept a secret or stealth is not true, right from their introduction it was started that the photocard driving licenses would only be valid for 10 years.

What they were and have been very ambiguous about is forcing every one to change their paper licenses to photocard.
If for any reason you have to change, update or want to get endorsements removed you must get a new photocard type license.
If you change address they will give you one free, but most other reasons you have to pay!

As to date no deadline has been set for every license to be a photocard version, but be certain it will happen.

Want to get out of paying to renew?

Move house every so often!

I think that is till when you are allowed to rive - I assume that is the date on the back next to your licence specifics.

The expiry date of the card (as opposed to your licence) is on the front - item 4b.

Re: Licence only good for 10 years

Isn't the point of a photo licence that the the photo actually resembles you? After ten years you might look very different!

Don't get me wrong I'm happy to knock the government for the many thousands of devious things they have done but the ten year photo licence is fine by me - it works out at just over 3p a week.

Nor does a vocational licence (HGV etc) change anything; just checked mine.

I have to admit I'm with Maggar on this one though; it's no different to what happens when you renew a passport. Too many people these days view the driving licence as a right, not the privelege which it is, no matter how much you pay for it.

The moral of the story is as dodgy as the government is you know you can't trust the Daily Mail. It has never let the facts spoil a good story.
