A big hand for the Street Glide

Having recently done over 2,600 miles in 2 weeks across the USA on a 2008 Street Glide, I must say how impressed I was with the bike. Whilst not as comfy as my own Ultra, the Street Glide was more than adequate, without the need for gel pads etc. Superb riding position, although the short screen did generate a lot of upper torso/head area wind turbulence even though I'm only average height. It performed admirably, in conditions ranging from torrential downpours & strong winds, to searing desert heat. Most of our party had Glides of one sort or another, and apart from the odd electrical fault, all performed well. The sixth gear came in useful when high speed cruising, but in a head wind, or up a small incline, it was next to useless, but thats not what its there for. Acceleration was good, although the rev-limiter (It WAS a rental!) came in at 5,500 RPM, so caught me out on a couple of occasions when accelerating hard in the low gears. Plenty of storage space in the 2 side panniers, and the Harmon/Kardon sound system on the bike is more than up to the job at all but the highest motorway speeds. All in all, I was hugely impressed by the bike, and anyone wanting a stripped down tourer thats huge fun to ride should seriously consider one of these.

Re: A big hand for the Street Glide

Good write up and particularly useful for me.

I get to hire H-D's n business trips to California. Already hired a Road King for a weekend in April (which caused me to buy my own Road King Classic on returning to the UK) and a Heritage Softail Classic 5-weeks ago for a weekend. Only got to do a few hundred miles each time but very enjoyable. Next time I will be hiring the Street Glide, so thanks looks like I'll enjoy it.
