Mobile Phones and alarm sytems

Remember a couple of year's back, all that fuss over radio masts interfering with alarm systems.

There's a few posts appearing on the American sites about mobile phones and alarm systems. Evidently WiFi enabled phones work on the same frequency as the H-D alarm and can jam them. There's some talk about using phones to 'hack' the bike security. Anybody experienced this?

Remember - the best alarm is a big f**k off chain

There is some truth to that Roger.

No one is quite sure yet which sequence of commands on the phone activates the Alarm system, up until now its a little hit & miss.

Don`t suppose it will take them long though.

Re: Mobile Phones and alarm sytems

I think that one of the problems is that the frequency used in the States for the alarm systems is incompatible with the frequencies used in Europe for communications. It is why our mobile phones don't work in the States, frequencies all wrong.
European alarm systems ( like what I've got) are totally compatible with European comms. Systems. One of the problems of importing American vehicles and their security into Europe.

Fortunately my bike was made before Harley started fitting alarms.

Predictable.... Shovels of course do come with a built-in immobiliser, you have to have owned the bloody thing for at least a year before you can start the bugger up anything like first kick!

Personally I prefer the security system on early Sportsters; kick it wrong and the spit-back breaks the thief's ankle so he can't run away!

Just as an aside; our works has recently installed a "state-of-the-art" clocking-in machine, which uses scan tags. After one day of use, management had to isue a warning to the staff telling them not to put the clocking-in tag on the same keyring as their car immobilisers, as they ended up paying for a taxi for one bloke 'cos the new tags screwed up the one for his car!

You must be lucky, I've known quite a few people who've had problems when visiting. A couple I know bought cheap and cheerful phones over there because they couldn't get their all singing and dancing ones to work.

Agree with that. Our experience is that mobile phone coverage outside population centres over there is non-existent. Far cheaper to buy a ten dollar phone card and call from phone boxes, gas stations or hotels. It's a bit of a fag punching in almost endless numbers, but it works! I only took a mobile to the States once.

And don't expect H-D to come up with any acknowledgement/solution or awareness of the problem if Natra's recent experience is anything to go by.
