Never mind off-topic and chatter on the Technical Forums: what about on here!?............. ... and from Assistant Webmeister no less. Should know better at his age.

Also, with respect, those poor unfortunates who volunteered to be Moderators are not really qualified to decide what is 'right' or 'wrong' advice. This is putting too much responsibility on them and the HDRCGB could be accused of not following the 'duty of care' they owe to it's members.

If the forum is allowed to carry on as it was then everyone would know that the advice published was mostly by non-qualified persons and should be followed at their own risk.

I don't want my club to put themselves at risk whilst it just trying to be helpful to it's members.

And thanks for all the tips, most of which are useful (and also those that aren't as they tell us how not to do things )
Bob may have a point or two there.

Lighten up Jake with all the other bull going on it's harmless and the serious side has and can still be discussed. I blame Old Bob

It's still open to discussion if anyone reads the first post.

Hey Colin you enjoyed that bollocking didn't yer mate.

Just look at how much chatter we do allow on techy subjects sometimes it's not a police state yet.

So back to the question:

We propose changing the technical section so that, in general, posts will be approved by a moderator, or trusted helper, before we add them. Persons who post a reasonable number of responses to help their fellow bikers, would automatically be upgraded to a position of trust whereby they would be able to post unmoderated. This would not imply that they had any special technical ability, merely that they were enthusiastic about helping out their fellow bikers.

If the proposal is carried we'll add more moderators to this section, who would be able to approve posts, thus speeding up any delay.

Discuss.

Re: Moderation in the Tech Area - Discussion and vote

The tech advice is what brings a lot of people to forums in the first instance (I was searching for info on a 45 which is how I found you chaps), and good tech advice is one of the things that keeps people here. I am generally in favour of the principle of checking advice where potential risks are involved, but wouldn't want that to stop knowledgeable people from posting.

On the subject of litigation, wording can be important. When someone asks how to overcome a problem, instead of saying "you should do this and that" try something along the lines of "I had that problem and what I did to mine was ...". That way you are not giving instructions but are merely recounting your own experiences (and experience is often worth a lot more than anything extracted from a book).

This is all just my opinion of course and as I'm not a club member yet I am not voting.

Re: Moderation in the Tech Area - Discussion and vote

I can understand having a tech ANSWER checked by a mod, but why are we having posts held untill checked when they are a QUESTION? whats the point of this, and also its happening in the TC/Evo areas as well, I thought it was just for the tech area...

TC/Evo is part of the tech area. As for the first part, it's a software issue, can't be done - yet
