Re: Riding In North Wales

Oh and thanks for the Welsh lesson Brigg.
I did try and learn Welsh but didn't get beyond talking about the weather:
'It is raining' and 'it is fine' Have'nt a clue how you'd spell it though!
My father in law is from Llanberis and speaks Welsh fluently and often corrects my laughable attempts

Spent many a sunny day there by the river lots of weekends over one summer when I was a young teen trying to wooo a girl from Waunfawr (which is just a viallage down the road ) who I'd met earlier in the year

I was living in Hull and used to get the train over (not an easy journey ) to stay with her & her family on a weekend but alas despite spending half the summer on trains and loads of dosh ............ I never got anywhere: frown: it was doomed from the start really ........ big cultural differences , her family hated me (she had a particularly aggressive elder brother I remember ) and they all thought I was only after one thing

Ahh happy days

I've not ridden in North Wales for years and that was my first ever camping trip on a bike.

Speeding isn't the issue, I'd rather just chug along admiring the landscape to be honest. Just wondering if my pipes might draw attention (apart from scaring the sheep) I suppose as I won't be riding that fast anyway this probably won't be an issue seeing as It'll chug along quite nicely in any gear.

I'm always coming across horse riders where I live so I'm used to gliding by relatively 'quietly' and anticipating occasional stray lambs and psychotic farmers
Try this road..... its a cracker... try crossing across to Blaenau Ffestiniog... remote scenery and lots of twisties...

This is review from Best Biker Roads in Wales:-

A4212 : Bala - Trawsfynydd (North Wales, Great Britain)
May 7, 2009 rated by harryj2000 - (My first time - score: 2)
"i live close to this route and love it !! ok the summer is a nightmare for plod in their helicopters , but being local helps to know when they are about ! and they are never there in the ewt , which to me is just as fun to ride !1

Waunfawr Wanfawr.... so bad they named it twice and incorrectly the spelling on the sign differs from one end of the village to other...

The one thing consistant about the North is its inconsistency...

I'm a magog,.. so equally hated...lol

You probably had a lucky escape... these Welsh girls can be 'difficult'...

Being an incomer can be a problem, we have never forgiven you for subjugating us in the 1300's....

But Im sure a written apology from the Queen would help...

Yeah, Lake Vrynwy sounds appealing, often seen signs for it off the A458. Might just have to check it out.
Planning to head thru Welshpool, Love that mountain pass near Dinas Mawddwy towards Dolgelleau, along the Mawddach estuary and along the coast road towards Llanbeddr. Camping inland at the foor of the Rhinogs.

Re: Riding In North Wales

Interesting post, thanks Andrew, wife and I are staying at The Bikers Retreat in Dolgellau in July, I was going to ask the same questions! I was wondering about the SE pipes myself.
