Parking Fees for bikes

Not sure if this is the right section but was reading an article in MCN this weekend about Westminster council trying to make permanent their charging scheme which could be used as an example for other councils. See Campaigning to have all parking taxes for motorcycles & scooters abolished. Westminster NOW, your council NEXT! | No To the Bike Parking Tax to make your protest.
As it happens we stopped in West Bay in Dorset on the way home from New Forest rally and they have set up bike charges in the harbour area that has always been a free bike park...so it is not just London.

Re: Parking Fees for bikes

We have already had a couple of very large rallies in the centre of London protesting against the charges.

Re: Parking Fees for bikes

Latest move by WCC is a new application to change the law to allow charging, this wipes out all previously registered objections.
The window for objections closes 2nd July, hence the demo on the 1st to hand in objections one at a time.
The forms can be downloaded from web site.
In a partial climb down WCC have said they will only charge £1 per day instead of £1.50.

They have had biking charges for bikes in Helmsely for years.
You use a differant machine that gives you 2 tickets, one for the
bike and one to keep so that you cannot say that someone has
nicked your ticket.

Re: Parking Fees for bikes

They tried it in Barnstaple for a while. The bike parking bays were all numbered and you typed the bay number into the machine when you paid - no need for a ticket on the bike as the 'officer' could get the information from the machine. The scheme was scrapped after a few months.

In Westminster it'll be the same as cars,- no cash parking,- you'll ring/text and pay off a credit/debit card via a pre set up account, based on the bikes registration number.

Re: Parking Fees for bikes

I went to a course at the NIA in Brum, tried to park up outside but nothing doing so I went into the nearby multistory.

Short version: I had to pay for parking using my mobile and a card.
