Because it works.

It's our lifestyle, we help ourselves and we help others. The idea of 'we'll only help you if you join the Club' is mean spirited and not our way. We don't force you, you have to want to join; and as I say it works, membership grows slowly year on year.

To quote a cliché - "if you have to ask..."

Re: Been discussed before.....

Suffice it to say that it has been discussed at the highest level (well, at a committee meeting anyway ) and the conclusion we came to was that we gain maximum benefit by having the site as it is now.

My own take on the subject is that the people who are willing to part with their thirty quid are, by and large, the people who will do other things to benefit the Club as well, as has been proven beyond doubt very recently with the "Mopeds to Scotland" and prior to that in a thousand different ways.

We will always get some people who will remain long-term site users without actually being members. Some of them contribute in their own way with technical advice which in itself is valuable to the members, and have their own reasons for not joining. That in itself is not a reason for closing the site to non-members, but in the past those people (Scotty and Harleyhog spring to mind as two good examples) have done a good deal to help make the website the useful technical resource it now is.

It is also fair to say that recent changes instigated by Roger and the moderators have meant that guest posters do not get away with things that members might. That helps to redress the balance.

It's also worth pointing out that there are still quite a few posters on here who show up on here as guests but who I am fairly sure are actually club members who haven't bothered to change their status yet.

Anyone that believes being a member of any club is about personal gain will never understand my explanation, I've already posted my thoughts elsewhere and I have no desire to repeat it again. I also believe that the other threads have addressed your questions. That's why I find it strange that you feel the need to ask the same question. Finito with this one for me.

Chris just say to your mate...............

"......If you have to ask, you wouldn't understand. "

BTW your signature says it all.

my 2 cents worth is don't bother rejoining if you don't want to be a part of a club that has been established for 60 years that has members that look out for each other........... like would you send a guest something on loan to help them out as no one need know them. I know there are great exceptions to this as we have MANY well established "Guests" that we know now from this day to day site. But it would not be the norm. (ie I would trust grbrown and the likes.)

Ask Phil in the USA why he is a member it may enlighten your mates question with the answer.

FFS it's less than 10 pence a day!

Re: Been discussed before.....

And for my four pence worth........Just last night I was riding back from Shrewsbury after visiting my eldest daughter on her 23rd birthday (christ I feel old these days) on my beloved Road Robert (hee bloody hee).
Whilst it clanked and banged, with its second IPB sounding worse than ever, its sh*t handling (appears to alter depending on the weather) thinking.....I could have a Triumph for what this cost, smoother, handles better, less clanking etc etc.
And again the same such thoughts today reading MCN and the Harely V Thunderbird road test, I thought how much less hassle and heartache.....

Then, you know what? on every ocassion I have felt like this I thought No Harley (can only afford to own ONE bike) No Club membership, No club membership No club friends and no club rally's (well not on a Trumpet anyway).
If it was not for this club and the people I have met in the short time I have been a member I would have given up on my Harley a while ago.
This site, the Quin, the rally's, the odd regional meetings we get too, make it all worth while.
£30 its nothing.............and anyony who owns a Harely will have probably spent thousands just keeping it on the road. Being able to come on this site and feel that i am not alone with my obsession for everything HD no matter how miserable it makes me when the bloody thing is not working properly, makes it all worthwhile. £30 is two ltr's of Bells (special offer at Sainsbury's) which I can get through that in less then a week. (especially when my bike's broken) Its about weeks fag money for those still hooked, its just about the gate money for one Shrewsbury Town Match (for two). Its also what I probably spend on Biker mags every month. AND it is worth every s*dding penny Just my view ok.

Not trying to have a go here just answering the question i guess.

Re: Been discussed before.....

Chris, you've already answered his question....'the 1st being the really good friends Ive made since joining' - he'll never feel completely at home 'till he's a paid-up member.
Any extra he gets, such as getting his money back by doing 2 or 3 rallies and buying from suppliers giving club discount (including insurers) is simply a bonus.
No need to give Chris a hard time; I have to explain this quite often.
Cheers,
Pete

Seems to me that Chris is only doing what an assistant rep should be doing...

Representing the views of other members.

Re: Been discussed before.....

Ok peeps, first let me thank you for all your replies, the person who posed this question,is 1, a fully paid up member, 2,a good friend, and as importantly to me,3, a member of Region 17 ,to who I am an Asst Rep for.
I began by apologising for the suject matter, which kind of annoyed me when Kernow replied with a ...I also said I had to agree with what the member in question had to say...up to a point..I did point out what I consider to be the benefits of the club,as I do when talking to potential new members.
Regarding what Squiz is saying to me...Im sorry but I still think hes missing the point.
The other odd thing in this thread...I thought when I said 'dont shoot the messenger'...it would be mainly guests doing the shooting
Once again thank you for your replies...even BaZa.....
