Re: Been discussed before.....

On the face of it most of what Chris says is valid ,there doesn't seem to be a lot of difference for your money .If i was a member of a social club then i would have to sign a non member in and they would have to abide by all the rules ,sorry but i see quite a lot of inflamatary posts put up by guests and sometimes they are allowed to continue .To me if the guy doesnt see any benefit for his money then thats upto him .Sometimes i wonder myself

Mind you how long is it reasonable for someone to continue as a guest

My sentiments entirely don't join or renew if you don't get anything out of it.

But for less than 10 pence a day I am proud to be a member and wear the tee shirt and the roundel of the oldest continual running and well established and well thought of Harley club in the UK in fact the whole of Europe. As the Czech one that was started before us was disbanded once. HARLEY-DAVIDSON CLUB PRAHA

As I do many rallies the cost is reimbursed on the gate at the rallies.

Guests can stay a long as they like and a good many of them contribute to the tech section and have their own reasons for not joining clubs.

Re: Been discussed before.....

OK, from the Guest point of view ... I have been learning from this forum since March this year, and have more or less decided that I do want to join up. But, like a lot of other people I am dodging redundancy at the moment and also every spare pound I have is going into parts for my 45. No doubt I will join, just not yet.

On the question of forum access, how would I know I wanted to join if I couldn't see what I was joining? It is having been able to see the level of tech advice and social welcome over a period of time that makes me feel I want to be involved.

And one last point, I'm not a long time Harley man - as Kev Scrivener put it, my 45 found me, not the other way around - and I did not know of the clubs existence until searching the web for information. If I had not been able to access the (vintage) tech section I would have just passed on by to the next site, and would now probably be importing parts from Europe instead of East Sussex.

Re: Been discussed before.....

Another "view from a guest", for what it's worth (which may be bugger-all depending on your point of view )

I've been a guest for summat like a year, and am still undecided whether to join - no reflection on the club, just me really - I'm already a member of a club (not a Harley club) plus the RBL Riders' Branch, and don't know if I can commit the time that membership of yet another club deserves. If I can't do it properly, I won't play at it.

I feel lucky to be able to use the forum - it's one of the best Harley forums around for information - and do appreciate the tolerant attitude shown towards guests. If ever the decision is taken not to allow guests, I'll have a decision to make - join the club or go elsewhere. Either way, you won't find me bitching about it. Hopefully, most guests realise that it's your forum, not ours, as I do.

You pays your money, you BELONG.
You don't pay your money, you DON'T BELONG. Simples tsk
It's human nature to want to belong to a group, or clan, or tribe, or whatever.
So for what ever reason people don't pay, ultimately they ain't one of us.
Perhaps they like to be "one of them" instead!

Good point; however, I've joined clubs before and still felt I didn't belong. Bit of a dilemma really.

Re: Been discussed before.....

Again thanks for all the replies, seems to me there are some people happy with the situation as it is...and some that do question whether the Ł30 is worth paying...as I explained to the member asking the original question..all the while Im a member, I will use this website..when I dont 'pay up' then Il cease to post on here...just my opinion.
