| Where do "well-used" HDs go - and why can't I find one!
Don't know if anyone will remember, but I was here for a while back in, er, '06 when I had my last Tour Glide. Having sold it to a splendid chap from Spain (that's a story all to itself - it's ::. UKGSer.com .:: if you fancy a read) I'm missing it, even with the dreadful summer we're 'enjoying'. Thing is, I ride all year round, all weathers, no car. That means any decent HD will have the arse out of it in no time at all, so I'm after something that's mechanically sound but can 'cosmetically challenged' in HD terms - all I'm going to do is cover the whole plot in ACF50, several coats. There's no point in anything new or chromey - it'll be a mess in days. But where the hell do bikes like this go?? It seems there's a choice between the immaculate (and hideously expensive) dealership machines and a few complete partsbin private sale dogs - but no usable, sound but scruffy bikes. So where do they all go? So... if anyone hears of a big twin with panniers of some sort that's not quite as shiny as it was, but has a couple of hundred thousand miles left it in , do let me know! And all ideas for tracking something down to get me back in the HD saddle again are much appreciated!Cheers Mark |

A lot are going to Europe due to the strength of the Euro vs the pound.

Tour Glides go to Spain, apparently.

A fair few of them get chopped. My tourpak and batwing came off different Glides, one a commemorative model. The chopper didn't seem to mind! Others end up in the garden shed as latent projects. Met a chap who stripped his to repaint it - ten years ago! He reckoned the paint should be dry enough now to rebuild it.....

I live in Spain and from the Independants that I have known over the past years the majority of second hand bikes are bought up by bikers who come down from the Nordic countries and Finland ...... especially as the cost of bikes in their part of the world are astronomical, they make regular trips to different parts of Europe to buy up the old stockHappy hunting
