Re: Club or MCC

ive always been taught even outside of biking ,keep yer mouth shut and ears open, and if you do happen to hear things it is to be kept that way,
a remember reading a poster in the bogs in Ireland"Loud Mouths Cost lives" so very apt for all walks of lives and very wise

Any questions answered.
either that's a typo for MC, in which case previous posts apply... or it really does mean MCC, in which case previous posts apply.

either way, I do rather think the whole issue has been covered by now..

Second that; we're getting into "rumour" territory.

Re: Club or MCC

Enter RUMOUR, painted full of tongues
RUMOUR
Open your ears; for which of you will stop
The vent of hearing when loud Rumour speaks?
I, from the orient to the drooping west,
Making the wind my post-horse, still unfold
The acts commenced on this ball of earth:
Upon my tongues continual slanders ride,
The which in every language I pronounce,
Stuffing the ears of men with false reports

- Henry IV part 2

Re: Club or MCC

In 1902 Louis William Stern experimented on rumor involving a "chain of subjects" who passed a story from "mouth to ear" without the right to repeat or explain it. He found that the story was shortened and changed by the time it reached the end of the chain.

So there ya go!

And it's only a rumour that I................................................. .................................................. .............................................?

Re: Club or MCC

As an extra to this quite interesting thread...................

Twas having a chat in local when I happened to mention that I might look in on a local group of fellow 2 wheeled enthusiasts, who have openly advertised for new members, when I was informed that I would have to 'prospect' for them before I could join. This came from a gentleman who is a member of a local group of side patchers whom are all good people, and also follow the 'prospect' system.

I thought that if you advertise for membership then you are an open club, whereas if you 'prospect' then it is invite only?

Having done the prospect thing many many years ago, followed by extreme diasappointment, how many on here would do the prospect thing?

I wouldn't as I already belong here and don't wanna go antwhere else!
