Does respraying a different colour affect price.

Say you were to respray one of the '90's electric blue tourers a tidy vivid black, would it affect resale in a positive or detrimental manner.

Bearing in mind that the graphics from the tank would be lost.

Re: Does respraying a different colour affect price.

my 2c...

(You can get replacement graphics everywhere.)

If a bike is sprayed a fairly individual colour or colours (pink, yellow, even lime green, or some garish Jackson Pollock deal) you would have a harder time selling, and almost certainly have to drop price.

YOUR idea of a great custom paint scheme is the next owner's first thing to change.

But....black with Harley graphics is fairly neutral change and no big deal. Black with NO Harley graphics/badge might put off a newbie to the bikes who wants to show off the badge/name. But that is a minute detail.

Then again, you are not selling, so no worries.....

Also, if you let DVLA know about the change of colour, the V5 will match what colour the bike is.

If yae painted it Red White n Blue and park it at the wrong end of Glasgow it would most definately affect the resale value......due to the damage inflicted to the tins!!!!

Simon, you've seen the bike...better in Black, what about a nice gunmetal. It'll have a batwing on as well.

Thumbs up Re: Does respraying a different colour affect price.

A good quality paint job such as black would probably enhance value. My blue 1990 bike, owned from new, is a variety of subtle shades of the same colour, so a repaint all the same shade would be an improvement!

The umpteen Harley graphics used over the years are available from your local friendly dealership, so there is no reason why a tasteful repaint should not have suitable branding, as if it had always been there. When I painted my batwing and tourpak I had matching original tank graphics applied to both, just to finish them off.

Re: Does respraying a different colour affect price.

On some models there is an obvious effect.
Some of the CVO models have custom paint jobs, and their prices reflect that.
I got my Nightrain for a £1000 off the list price due to it being red. The dealers had it for a year and were unable to sell it.
If you were to paint it black using some cans from Halfords I would expect the price to drop.
If you were to have a metalflake finish from a proffesional painter, you may find the price increases.

Re: Does respraying a different colour affect price.

It will effect saleability in one way or another - ie good 'neutral' paint job makes its easier to sell, tacky murals etc will make it harder to sell - it will not add value ie pounds to the asking price, any thisthattheother glide is worth the same as another of the same year.
