Question Biketoberfest Daytona Beach Florida: Info advice needed please.

Me and Big Edd keep talking about doing this event... take the wifes and make a holiday of it. Has anyone been to this event and if so what is the best way to go about it?

As in who did you book through, etc?

I keep trying to find a suitable motel and then try and book flights later, but my head goes into meltdown and I give up after a while... Best I have come up with was the Aku Tiki Inn didn't seem to bad, but no idea if its in a good location or if there is somewhere more reasonable, but then there is flights and getting from the airport to the Hotel.

So just after any advice from anyone who has been there done that. Cheers!

Re: Biketoberfest Daytona Beach Florida: Info advice needed please.

My experience of the October event was limited to a day two years ago, was with the wife.

Best bit of advice would be to stay as close as you can to Main Street, I was in Daytona last year and stayed at the Super8 ( DO NOT STAY HERE-ITS SHITE)
I made my way down Main Street, consuming Bourbon and steak on the way, needless to say- on the way back I was very pleased it was only 400 m to the hotel, that sidewalk got very wobbly.

Even better advice, don't go with the wife, unless she doesn't mind you staring at all the barmaids in bikini's.

Re: Biketoberfest Daytona Beach Florida: Info advice needed please.

I have been twice...spent 4-5 days there at the
'97 Biketoberfest then again a couple of years later. The '97 was great because it coincided with Halloween and some of the pub parties were tremendous with fancy dress etc.

Biketober is never as crowded as Bike Week itself. But the fact remains that for both events, hotels quadruple their prices, and many bars and restaurants also hike prices, and I personally would never go to either again. For that very reason.

These events are not *quite* as crowded now as five or ten years ago now that the US has done it tough, economically. But you do pay to attend. And, frankly, I am all over being ripped off just to say ''I was there''. But I guess you do have to experience it once.....I did. Twice.

Then again, these days I would never go to Sturgis at ''that'' time either.....

If I was going to attend one event in the USA, it would be the Smoky Mountains Smokeout run by The Horse:Backstreet Choppers magazine. Choppers, beer and titties galore, no ripoffs, no censorship, no moronic city bylaws, no ''let's fleece rich bikers'' economic opportunism.

Buy the mag to get a flavour, or dig around their site and forums....

The Horse Backstreet Choppers Magazine

If you don't like choppers and nudity, it may not be your thing but that shit works for me and I do know club members who have been and loved it.

Re: Biketoberfest Daytona Beach Florida: Info advice needed please.

When we went last year, the wife (who does all the booking, etc) found that from a holidaying point of view, better deals were to be had staying in Orlando (as it caters for tourists, and prices are more competative) and driving in to Daytona to a pre booked motel for just a night or two. Once Biketoberfest is over you are pretty well placed in Orlando then to have a look around florida .

Re: Biketoberfest Daytona Beach Florida: Info advice needed please.

Thanks for the replies, Choppers and nudity sounds good to me ;o)... Maybe not the wife though ;o(

I am still mulling the idea over in my head yet, just wanted some pointers to where to look at prices etc.

I hate being ripped off though and maybe the reality wont be as good as the dream. The Orlando and do just a couple of days in Daytona may work... "Hum?"
