Smile Harley Dealer Stockort

Harley has closed in Stockport, I know everyone will know this by now but are we getting another some time soon. There's none in Manchester either as fat as I know. There is an empty motorcycle shop on Stockport it used to be called Stockport Motorcycle Centre on Carrington Road across from what use to be a pub called the rifle Volunteer, this could make a nice easy to run compact Harley dealership. This shop can be seen on Google earth. The shop has been closed fo a couple of years, it also contains a work shop and an MOT area.
I just thought I would bring this to notice, it's a shame there is no Harley shop localy but this could be an answer. I think I have attached a photo of the shop, not to sure. Happy Christmas and New year to you all.

Nice thought but H-D do not allow a nice easy ''COMPACT'' shops to exist now, they all need to be large premises with large showrooms and apparel boutiques, that's why so many have been forced to close because the owners will not lay out mi££ions to get to the size H-D require.

Long gone have the dealers with the guy behind the counter in a brown coat and not needing a parts book to look at to find your part.

This is just my see on it and I may be incorrect.

Indeed! Warrs used to be just such a shop on Kings Road and Fred himself wore a brown coat - look at them now! Some of that is the fruit of their success, but much is complying with the corporate image demanding by Milwaukee.

Re: Harley Dealer Stockort

Nearest dealers are at Preston and Chester so not too far compared to the early 1990's. In the present economic climate it might be as good as it gets. The party is well and truly over for a long time yet. An era has in my view closed. That said the N.W. of England is very well served by a number of INDEPENDENTS with very good reputations. We are lucky.

Although a recession's never a good thing, the current climate may weed out a few of the "bolt-on lifestyle" brigade, leaving those that just want to ride Harleys. All the closing official dealers could mean boom-time for the decent independents too.

How long has the Stockport shop in the picture been there? I have a feeling I might have a bought a bike there in 1980.

Re: Harley Dealer Stockort

Damn...if that's the shop I think it is, I bought a used Honda 400 there and then thrashed it from Stockport and London every other week for the rest of its life.

Re: Harley Dealer Stockort

Didn't there used to be a shop called "Adamsons" specialised in Kawasaki ?

I remember going there I'm fairly sure, when I used to have my passion for "Zeds" in my late teens early twenties. There used to be able to get Moriwaki parts from Japan.

ride safe

Re: Harley Dealer Stockort

The shop had been there for quite a few years, it's a shame it closed.
Some one spoke of independent Harley dealers in the NW, is there any near Stockport? I used to go to the trading post in Mossley but that closed a while ago, he was a great guy and very helpfull.
