Re: Our Next Meet

For those who were wondering where it is:

<<HERE>>

Mike D and I rode past it on numerous occassions saying it would be a good place to meet - mostly whilst trying to avoid getting done for speeding to and from Hanham!!

Re: Our Next Meet

Just got back from some R+R and picked up on this. If we're going to do this then the Globe is perfect. Often had the same thoughts when driving by it.
Let's give it a few more days for others to post, we can discuss it next Wednesday at the K.D., then I'll contact Noddy if we havn't heard from him by then.

So if this goes through to meet at THE GLOBE can we meet 3rd wed of the month? We have to contact the pub to ask if we can have a meet there first.
The place is in a good location for all to find and is big enough plus has a big carpark

Re: Our Next Meet

Hi guys.

I have just caught up with the chatter that has been going on over the last couple of weeks.

The Globe sounds like a good idea BUT there are a few other things, both for and against to think of as well.

Our region, like many others is large and well spread out so to have just one club night is putting all of our eggs in one basket. There will be people across the region that will not be able to make the 'one' club meeting a month due to work, family and a whole varity of other reasons. This is the main reason for having two or more club nights to enable as many members as possible to attend one or the other, or in some cases both... (some regions have up to four meetings a month due to the size of their region)
Our region (approx) goes up towards Gloucester and down towards Taunton, across the line of the A303'ish and up towards Swindon, so you can see it is rather large as well.
The area boundary is not set in stone and as such people come and go as they can. Over the years we have noticed that if you move the meeting to a new pub, you loose some members and gain others because of the logistics of getting to and from the new meet, this problem is and will be, never ending.

For our region, I still think two meeting is the best idea, similar to as present, that's not to say the pubs can't be changed and moved around a bit to acheive the best attendance possible.

As for the 'them and us' that seems to crop up now and again, it all comes down to the logistics of the region, there are members based around the Bristol area that use 'The Chequers' and other members that are based around the area of 'The Kicking Donkey' , it would be very nice if we could all go to both places every month, but as we all know that does not happen, for reasons menitioned before.

Nothing is set in stone, and every thing can be tried, tested and altered as required to achieve the best outcome for all.
Over to you... for you comments.

Similarly at present people miss the KD or Bristol meeting and still don't bother going to the other meeting to "catch up"

At present we only have, to my knowledge, one person who comes from Bristol to the KD with any regularity and none in the other direction.

The region is very big as you say. I'm not sure how many members or their demographics but at present we get about 20 at the KD, and most that I have spoken to would be up for a move to the Globe or similar. How many do you get at Bristol on average? Playing with these levels of attendance we are not likely to loose a huge percentage of the membership and may even gain some.

Which is why it might be time for a change. Personally, if I didn't know you from my time in Bristol in the eighties and early ninties, I'm not likely to know you at all; that's how often I bother going to the Chequers.
