Re: Our Next Meet

Im in Staffordshire next wednesday so cant make it, but I think the general concensus is on for the Globe.

It does seem like a good idea to pop in on wednesday.

It is also true that our ability as a group to make a discision is about as good as a one legged centerpede doing the hop skip and a jump.

c most of u tonmorrow.

It's nothing to do with democracy. Nothing has changed, moving the meetings is still just a suggestion.

Some of us are going over to the Globe on Wednesday evening to have a look and see if it's a possibilty. We may get there and find out that they don't want us or we don't want them, who knows.

This is just an informal, non-official, no rules, open invite ride to the pub.

Once that has been completed we can then have an open discussion about it's suitability and whether the monthly meets should be changed to utilise it or not. As only a small number of the region actually use the website don't go getting all excited; it will have to be brought up officially and discussed at a region meeting.

Re: Our Next Meet

Well, we checked it out along with 10 other members and it's a go.

We had a vote and it was agreed that the Bristol meeting will move to the Globe starting on the third Wednesday in July.

This will give Dave Parker chance to inform those Bristol member who don't use the website at the meeting on the third Wednesday in June at the existing venue and also allow us chance to inform those members who attend the KD at the first Wednesday in July.

Just so no-one gets confused please note that the meetings at the KD have not changed.

Dave Parker will get the details updated in the next issue of the Quinn.

Pleased to hear of the idea to move, personally, as a fellow club member I’m fine with that but as previously posted (above) that the visit was to be low key to have a look round, that the decision to move was voted for on the night may seem a bit off for the folk who don’t get on the web & maybe knew nothing of the idea for a change of venue, I don’t know how many of the ‘Bristol’ region members were there on Wednesday night to vote on the move? As the above post stated ‘there would be a region vote’ but it seems to be cut & dried already!

The other point I would raise is that I was under the impression that there was to be one main meeting for the region, but as stated it looks on the face of the above post that the region members who meet at the KD came to the Globe & decided that the region members who meet at the L&W should move their meeting to the Globe!

Maybe my tongue in cheek remark about democracy had some credibility after all!
Had I not been working Wednesday evening I would have joined you at The Globe but however much I personally think the move is good I would still have voiced concerns about voting there & then. Don’t get me wrong but we are a club & I think the none web members of the region deserve some input too.

I'll now duck my head

It was my idea that we take a look at the pub. I suggested that the change of meeting place should be put to a region vote in the case of a complete change, ie one meeting for all members at the Globe.

The only two "regular" Bristol meeting place members (who did show for the look around), were more than happy to move "their" meeting place to the Globe.

The eight members and partners who could actually be bothered enough to have a look agreed that it would be a good place to meet. A "vote" was taken and the result was all members present voted in favour of moving the Bristol meeting to the Globe after the next meeting at the L&W.

This was never anything other than a suggestion by me - no decisions had been taken, voted on or even discussed in any formal way.

On the face of it you would be wrong. There were 4 members from the Bristol area and 4 members from the KD area, although we are all members of the same region.

It is this perception of KD and LW members; or us and them; that I was attempting to remove by suggesting that we have one meeting place.

One of the die hard non-web users managed to make it and make his thoughts known so I don't think it was underhand. I was reliably told that the Bristol meets consist, on the whole, of two regular members both of whom were at the Globe on Wednesday and funnily enough were in favour of the move. I hear what you are saying about members rights to vote. It might be time to have a General Meeting. I would call it an AGM but that would imply that we have one every year and to my knowledge that just doesn't happen.

Only problem is that there is no way of contacting all the membership of this region other than through the Quinn. This would mean we couldn't get it all sorted out before sometime in September or October (this year though!).

Re: Our Next Meet

Sorry Phil that I couldn't be 'Bothered' to turn up! I don't have a total 9 - 5 job & sometimes the aircraft flies in the evening so I have to be there,

I'm not trying to get (in your words) 'Excited' over this, As I said before, I'm happy with the move, it's just 'not as advertised' in your previous posting that's all.

Please don't put words into my mouth, There is nothing I have said about any of this being 'underhand'!
Cheers
Geoff
