Newbe on the hunt

Hi All.

I've always fancied a Harley and now is as good a time as any I guess

First thing I plan on doing is getting my bike license obviously (Only rode those crappy little bikes when I was younger), but I can't resist doing a bit of window shopping and talking to the dealers etc.

I was planning on a trip to the Harley dealership on Kirkstall Road in Leeds this weekend.
Just wondering if anyone had anything nice/nasty to say about it, and if there are any other recomended stores that I should think about visiting?

Regards,
Chris

Re: Newbe on the hunt

Hi Chris

It will be a good a place as any just to get an idea of the range of bikes. It has recently been taken over by 'Summer retail Ltd' who now own St. Ledger in Doncaster, Just Harleys in Newcastle, and Manchester Harley Davidson.

Can't say anything good or bad as they have only been open for a few weeks and I haven't had any experience with them. Should be good just to browse though.

Good luck with your licence!

Re: Newbe on the hunt

If you're not in a rush to buy, go to the next local HDRCGB meeting and have a chat and a look at members rides.
That'll be 6 May at the Hunters on the A658 betwixt Pool In Wharfedale and Harrogate.

Re: Newbe on the hunt

Greetings folks! Newbie Iain here.........hanging out in Gilberdyke,East Yorkshire........been riding an Enfield Bullet these 20 years past.......yesterday I was at St.Ledger eyeing up the scoots..........put a deposit on a Vivid Black XL883,which I hope to pick up in a few weeks. I love the raw bare-bones look of the Sportsters.....engine....wheels....tank.....cant wait to get up on the moors! I am staggered by the insurance......bargains out there! I always thought that it would cost me an arm and a leg......I recently found fully comp for £118! Maybe I can get it lower? We shall see!Bye for now..........enjoy the Summer........if we have any?

You're not that far from me Iain, I'm north of Howden. Let me know if you fancy coming with us to one of the Lincs bike nights or something.

Re: Newbe on the hunt

Local rideouts n meets sound good to me! Cant wait to sling my leg over the XL. On another topic, the guy at St.Ledger told me that Harley use 20-50 oil..........then he said that diesel type was the best?? Isnt that multigrade a 15-40?? Bit confused! I supposed Duckhams 20-50 would be ok for topping up? Bye for now.........ride safe.........watch out for those newly gritted roads! Chipped paintwork.......plus gravel rash is bad news!

Re: Newbe on the hunt

Just got my XL insured............my first quote was £136............the next was £118..............then I found one for £99...............finally I tried Bennets/Norwich Union.............brand new Sportster.......fully comp.....£71!!!!Bloody amazing...........I pay that now for my 17 year old winter hack (CG125)......and the Honda is only 3rd party.........I really cant figure out this crazy difference? Mind you,at that price I aint complaining......one happy bunny over here in East Yorkshire! I should be picking up my Vivid Black Sporty in a couple of weeks........hope we have a long dry Summer! Ride safe, Iain.
