Thanks for a great day our Mag (and the coffee. scone & ice cream!)

Can't wait for the next one.

Lynda

PS: My fuel consumption was awesome - 140 miles after that last fill up & I'm still not on reserve!

Re: Saturday 8th August - Banks and Beaches Ride

Great day, thanks everyone, especially Maggar, our tour guide.

A perfect day for a 350 mile round trip, enjoyed every mile.

See you next time.

Tony

Re: Saturday 8th August - Banks and Beaches Ride

Thanks one and all for a great days riding (when we eventually caught up!!), Maggar thems some quality riding routes, better than the places the last tour guide sent me.

Jan wants to know can we come again please, although she wasn't half aching by the time we got back, had to stop twice for bum breaks may need to look at some new seats

Till next time

Al

Re: Saturday 8th August - Banks and Beaches Ride

Pics from Saturday's ride:

Tones and John Mac at Fimber Cafe

Tony, Lorna and Martin883 at Fimber:

Lynda (Pocket) & Tones at Fimber:

Mag & Boogie (Lorna said we had to stop laughing for this one!):

Through Helmsley:

Then down the "Yorkshire TT" route toward Stokesley, we would turn off at Chop Gate for 5 miles of single track "farm" lanes across the moors to Carlton Bank.

Some glorious views from the Helmsley to Stokesley road in Bilsdale valley:

We arrived at Lord Stones cafe at the yop of Carlton Bank now with Panda and Jan after they caught up with us at Fimber:

It's a cracking little cafe this and a bar too!!!!

We descended Carlton Bank coming off the Cleveland Hills and made our way to Stokesley for a fuel stop before passing through Newton under Roseberry with stunning views of Roseberry Topping:

Through Great Ayton where Captain Cook was a schoolboy:

On through Guisborough and up onto the North Yorks Moors again on the A171 Whiby Road passed Scaling Dam:

We turned off towards the coast and down to Runswick Bay where the road came to a rather abrupt halt on a very steep slope onto the beach, a good test of slow bike control and tippy toe manoeuvres:

A richly deserved pint at the Runswick Hotel:

Where Tony bored John with his knowledge of semaphore:

And Panda looked on amused having filled up on Bamboo shoots:

It was agreed that Whitby would be heaving with traffic so an alternative route back via Castleton and Blakey Ridge provided a good test of reactions as North Yorkshire's famous Suicide Sheep Squadron was in full force over the moors:

Through Hutton le Hole:

Back down to Helmsley and towards Sutton Bank; Panda, Jan, John and Tones carried on to Sutton Bank and the A1 and the four remaining bikes (Pocket, me, Tony & Lorna and Martin) veered off through the forests to Wass and Byland Abbey before taking a break at Newburgh Priory lake:

The last leg through Coxwold, Oulston, Crayke, Stillington, Sutton on the Forest and into York for an ice-cream at the river:

A very good day all 'round!
