    Sussex Coasters (Modern) history

    < 1984 - 1988 South East Region combined East Sussex and Kent

    1989 - 1990 Rebranded as The South Downs

    Sussex Coasters (recent) history since 1991.

    Ray & Selmar Hurst Reps for the Coasters, meeting at the Sussex Coaster pub in Peacehaven.
    Aug 93 – Dec 94 moved to the Snow Drop Inn, Lewes Assistant rep:- Martin Norris.
    Dec 94 – Jan 98 meeting at the Six Bells, Chiddingly.

    Meeting places since 1998: Red Lion Magham Down, Wool Pack Herstmonceux, The Berwick Inn, Cross in Hand, Horseshoe, The Dolphin Hastings, Hastings Angling club, all in the east of the region. The Wig & Pen, Old House at Home, Royal Coach,around the Worthing area, The Kings Head near Chichester briefly, The Dragon Colgate, The Grayhound Tinsley Green, The Green Man Ringmer, The White Horse Maplehurst.




    Simon Ashdown Rep Dec '94 – Oct '06.
    Assistants during the period:- Brian Wood, Pete Pettigrew, Ken Piper, Colin King, Kerry Mersh, Old Bob Wood, Len Payne, Paul Endacott, Steve Baker, Anthony Baker and Phil Curry.

    Phil Curry Rep Oct '06 – Oct 2011.
    Assistants during the period:- Ken Piper, Len Payne, Old Bob Wood, Bexx Veness, Mike & Kim Tebbett, Karl Baker, Charlie McNeil, Tim Open.

    Tim Open Rep Oct '11 - Apr 2016.
    Assistants during the period: - Graham & Wormy (Karen) Pittock, Mike & Kim Tebbett, Karl Baker, Alan Foster, Steve Watson

    Jim Wootton Rep Apr '16 - present.
    Assistants during the period: - Chris Hargeaves, Graham Pittock, Debbie Kennedy (Treasurer), Colin King

    Bring Your Own bits BBQ,s held at the Six Bells 1997/1998
    Triple Rally at The Red Lion Magham Down 1999/2000

    Triple Rally at Langney (Eastbourne) 2001 – present.

    Continuous Harleyquin regional articles since December 1996. Best cover June/July 2002 (The Bums)

    There was also a local group known as the ‘South Downers’ that held some rally’s at Hellingly whose history is entwined with the Riders Club and should be included.

    It would be nice if any-one else can go back further to the earlier years.

    If Ray & Selmar had been having the meetings a few years earlier we could have been known as the Gay Highlanders ... the previous name of the Sussex Coaster ... phew :o
