    registering 45

    Hi All
I am after some advice/ help with registering a 45 that I have built up from a parts, most of the parts are original which I have owned for the past 30 plus years (frame, engine, box, forks, tanks, wheels and assorted smaller items) and a few repro parts like rear mudguard and seat. basically can I get an age related plate for this bike as it is constructed from mainly 1942-45 WLA parts. any help would be greatfuly received.
    Cheers
    Graham.

Surely all bikes are built up from parts.......
How do you prove either way, I only have an engine number as frames that old were not numbered.

As Steve says, be economical with the truth at all times with you know who, believe me, i've been there and they made it hard work for something that should have been really easy :<(

A new registration will either be a Q plate or Age Related or New Vehicle.New Vehicle you can forget..Q plate is issued for vehicle of "indetermined age or origin"..So by default, if the age of the major components (frame, engine and wheels) can be determined, you will be issued a plate accordingly. There are many ways of identifying components age and origin by their casting/production numbers...Just my 2 pennies.

This is how it looked when I got it home (after taking it apart to transport it, as it was a complete bike not a collection of parts, wink)

I have mentioned this before but appropriate to repeat it now - when I was our DVLA Authentification "officer" I had a Duo owner who had built a real beauty. I sent my supporting letter and asked to be advised how he got on. Out in the carpark at his nearest DVLA office he had a woman from inside checking over the bike and in his enthusiasm he explained how he had sourced the period parts from far and wide, she thanked him and said we will write to you. They did, saying plate refused as "assembled from parts".
