Re: A question about belt tension ?

well did the adjustment again and started with 14mm cold and after the ride its 3 mm so clearly somits not right as everyone is telling me it should be the same before and after the engines hot.
Clearly im going to have to set it for at least 20mm cold for this holiday and hope for the best...

In the mean time next time you go for a ride (cold engine) mark ur belt anywhere test the deflection and post what the deflection is after the ride (hot engine) will you. maybe i can get a vague consensus of what happens when it gets hot?

Cheers happy hols if ur off an away o/

Have you checked pulleys are bolted up tight,
And made sure they are not oval.
I Check mine cold on the stand, and it has only needed adjusting once in 27000 miles.

rear pulley floats in a rubber cush and that hasn't movement i can see. Front is obviously behind the primary and cant be checked without stripping it all out (no time im off tomorrow).

    wish me luck /0\

pardon me if this sounds sackless and poke fun if you want but is it possible to have a tight spot on a belt?

All belts have a tight spot. I was surprised myself when i read about it, but its true.
And believe it or not but your primary chain has one too.

Presumably any slight out of roundness of the "sprockets" - if that's the right word?

tight spot? guys this isn't a tight spot kinda thing its a find the tight spot do deflection to 11mm end up with 0mm deflection with everything hot.
the guys in the US say when it all heats up its going to get tighter ie the MoCo deflection range at cold takes into account the tightening when hot.
At the moment i'm trying to find out if that includes going to 0 defection and that's ok or whether getting tighter means going from 11mm to 9 mm ie still in the manual tightness range.
As i said mine goes from 20 mm cold to 11 -9mm hot or set to 11mm it goes to 0mm hot.
any way its to late now im off tomorrow.
May never find out. when the weather cools maybe my prob disappears.

couldn't find any recent videos on fix my hog bout dis ? linky? cheers

Any hoo atm its set at 22mm when cold, after i set it to factory deflection when hot last night and checked it this morning, and after a good ride in this heat its at 11mm so going by that im going to take out around 4 mm or 5 mm and it should run at around 7-6 mm and 18-17mm cold.
i'm hoping this is a middle range thing. As nobody thinks running the belt with 0 deflection (which it will be if i set as manual 9 to 11mm cold) when hot is a good idea.
i'm not happy with this but thats that, im off o/ happy hols to me lol.

Re: A question about belt tension ?

Read this post with great interest, on my FXR i used to have, the belt tension never altered. But thinking logically the rear pulley which is made of aluminium obviously expands when it get warm, now it maybe by not much as in the diameter but it you think of it in the circumference it will be quite a lot. This would have a big effect on the belt tension.
As to why some bike don't suffer with it maybe they don't get as hot for some reason.
    All hyperthetical
