    Redex: Discuss.

Parking up after a recent 200 mile trundle along the north Norfolk coast - mainly slow speed, bogged down in tourist traffic - I noticed a lot of exhaust soot on the bags and silencers. The plugs (3 months old) looked fine, and its not that long since the bike had a Power Vision tune. As always, looking for the simple fix first, I poured in half a bottle of Redex's 5-in-1 fuel additive (haven't used the stuff in decades). Bingo! An immediate improvement in performance, fuel economy, and clean panniers. The bike's a 2016 Street Glide, 16,000 miles, with S&S headers and silencers (no cat), always run on premium fuel (V-Power etc.), but doesn't move much from November to February. I then tried their diesel equivalent in the car, while not as dramatic, a noticeable improvement in low end pulling power after only 10 miles. They recommend using it every 3,000 miles. I'm converted. Anyone got any experience/pros & cons of long-term use of additives in modern fuels?

Years ago, I used to use the original Redex on a regular basis. My classic cars loved it, they always ran smoother & quieter, if a little smokier! Which leads me onto........... if you want to prank someone, tell them to take their silencers off, fill them with any old oil & then empty out & re-fit. The clouds of smoke are most embarrassing.....The oil is supposed to bake on with heat & it keeps the silencers from rotting due to condensation. It does work, but the smoke....

Never used the Petrol version but tried the Diesel one. After a month doing 500 miles a week on a 50K mile engine and using the recommended dosage at each fill-up I can confirm it made absolutely no difference whatsoever. in any way shape or form Nothing, zilch. Apart from costing a fortune in the stuff.

Been using the stuff for years, great after your bike has stood still over the winter period. Regular use gives better fuel economy and cleaner running. If you look around its often on special offer, currently in Wilkins its just £2 a bottle.

Use it in all my vehicles, they run better and smoother than without it.
It is more obvious with a diesel though.

I haven't used the 'shot in every tank' stuff, so can't comment but my initial experience of the 'Advanced' (use once every 3,000 miles) deep clean product is pretty good. You pays your money and makes your choice...
