P4 to remove Dyna wide glide pinch bolts?

Was just going to pull the fork tubes out on my 2000 dyna wide glide to fit new springs and oil and yet another pair of bodged bolts reared their rounded off heads. Namely the bolt on either side that goes through the side of the top yoke into the top of the fork tube (not a pinch bolt really, more of a locating bolt). So before going any further i have ordered a pair of replacements from the local dealership as the current pair will get chewed up to get them out
But trying to figure out what exactly is the correct tool to get the new ones back in and torqued up.
In my trusty tool box i have a P3 drive attachment that is only just too small, so would I be right in thinking that a P4 is the correct tool or is there something else i should be looking at ? Click image for larger version.

If the bolt head is standing proud of the surround, you could saw across & use a flat bit to undo it. Have you tried an impact driver? HTH.

Copious amounts of penetrating oil (not wd40) and have the welder on standby.

Re: P4 to remove Dyna wide glide pinch bolts?

Thanks Guys, copious amounts of violence will be readied in advance to get the butchered old ones out but any idea what the correct tool to tighten up the new fasteners is? Back in the UK next week so chance to pick one up if I know what exactly what to ask for. Can only think its the next size up i.e. a P4 at this moment unless they started off as something completely different.

I'd take the new bolts with you to a tool supply & try stuff out for size.

Post up a photo of the bolt when you get them and we should be able to tell you

Re: P4 to remove Dyna wide glide pinch bolts?

I may be wrong but i dont think they pinch anything and i have always used p4 screwdriver. They seem to be cosmetic because they get used for mounting many of the aftermarket screens. The threads that is, not the screws

Re: P4 to remove Dyna wide glide pinch bolts?

Thanks Ian, yes they locate rather than pinch but I reckoned if I used this term everyone would know where/what it was as couldn’t think of another term for the bolt and the Harley parts diagram just lists it as a bolt with no other descriptor. Confirmation of P4 is what I was after mate so cheers and sorted
