Livewire US order hotline now open, don't get trampled in the rush.

Harley-Davidson announced Monday at CES that its all-electric motorcycle, the LiveWire, is now officially available for pre-order. It starts at $29,799 and will begin shipping in August.

For some the critical bit (apart from the price
that's more than twice the cost of a Hayabusa in the US)

The range - is estimated at 110 miles. There are three charging solutions:
    - Level 1 (standard household outlet): 13 miles range per hour of charged.
    - Level 2: LiveWire can be connected to a Level 2 charge unit but will be charged at the Level 1 rate.
    - Level 3 (DC Fast Charge): 192 miles range per hour charged.

I was looking forward to this being launched, but at that price and with it's limited range it's a very expensive impractical solution for anyone other than inner city bar hopping.

The bike also has H-D Connect, which is free for the first year (WOW) and then you have to pay a subscription (assume to cover the cost of the roaming SIM).

No mention of battery life/warranty and can't see that being cheap to replace if some numpty gets the life cycle design wrong. With their history of launching 1/2 baked designs I think I'll wait until fossel fuel is exhausted and there is no other alternative.........then get an electric zimmer frame

When you can buy something equally as cool from Zero Motorcycles for half the cost..........why would anyone buy this?

Also some press reports say its speed limited to 95MPH.......

Quote... The top speed is electronically limited to 95 mph, as traveling at higher speeds severely reduces the range.

The sound seemed like a cross between a Dremil and a dentist drill.

I know it's the future, but it's not for me, no soul, no character, no v twin rumble and at a ridiculous price, with limited range, it's not going to fly out of the dealerships! I'd rather ride the proposed bloated big H-D adventure bike and that in my opinion is utter shite! The day our club membership badge changes to a battery symbol is the day I'll quit, anyone else feel the same?

I absolutely do not agree its the future. Internal combustion engines do not need fossil fuels. Its a fad and probably a very short lived one. It only takes a viable biofuel to become available or hydrogen storage issues to be resolved and battery electric bikes will be obsolete overnight.

In HDs case its window dressing to stave of invester revolt. Their Q4 results are due out in 2 weeks and it could be dire.

Every time HD has tried to break out of its traditional markets it has failed. Buell, Vrod, Street. Its not what people want in a Harley.

I assume the price in dollars will equate to pounds when this exciting model hits our shores .

I would not pay half of this price for a bloody duracell battery with wheels , come of it h-d stick
    to what you know .
