    London ULEZ and permissible bikes.

    Hi.
I currently have a 2014 sportster which is Euro 3 and as such I won't have to pay this lovely £12.50/day if I venture west of where I live.
I'm looking at changing to an Ultra Glide so that I can take my daughter camping a bit easier (my excuse to the Mrs anyway).
Trouble is, I can't easily afford a post 2007 model, bloody things hold their prices too well
I've heard that some models are OK as far back as 2003/2004. Anyone have any info on this? I've emailed HD UK but no answer so far.

Easiest way to check is find one for sale, then put the reg number into the ulez number plate checker on tfl website.

Thanks, I've checked a few. Trouble is, a LOT of vehicles come up as failing but they are actually not. You have to pay for a certificate of conformity (£108 from Harley?) to prove it's OK.
I know of someone who applied for (and got) one for a 2004 road king even though according the site, it was NOT compliant.
I could start a whole rant about how it's wrong that they are getting away with this AND make each person apply separately even for the same model bike etc etc, but I won't.
I just wondered if anyone had already applied for something a bit older and been approved or if there was definitive list of motors that will pass.

Seems that motorcycles in general have largely been ignored, and the correct data isn't available. There's a similar discussion going on on the Moto-Guzzi forums, related to bikes which ARE Euro 3 compliant, bit for which TFL don't have the correct data. Whether that's their fault or the manufacturers is not for me to say, but it seems that historic vehicles are exempt, so the answer seems to be to go out and buy yourself a Shovel....

    Hear! Hear!

When in danger or in doubt, run in circles scream and shout!

A common mistake made when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

When you live in the sticks, the best rule of thumb is to avoid going anywhere inside the M25. That is to me, playing it safe, inside the circle is scary.

And that's just the best bonus of living in the real world ;-)

Re: London ULEZ and permissible bikes.

I will be living inside the ULEZ zone when it becomes operational! Retired; so before you mention it - no, I will not be moving. Bit stuffed re my 1991 Sportster. If I ride it to a w/e rally it appears I will pay the charge twice, once to leave the zone, then again to re-enter on a different day. Um, 25 quid on top of the cost of the rally.....Could always get organised and trailer it over the border!.....But I am sure my 2006 registered StreetRod would have been built to EURO 3 and will be compliant. So for me paying a hundred odd quid one off fee to HD will be worth it. Not worrying at present, over 2 years away before implementation.

Has anyone else received an e-mail with a questionnaire about ULEZs?
