    Engine runaway

Got my 2006 Heritage Softail EFI (1450) out of the garage today as sun is shining and looked good for a ride. After usual checks started her up and engine just increased in speed like a run away.
Shut her down and checked air inlet and air filter. Butterfly on throttle working ok, opening and closing.
Started again and again runs away.
Not too well up on Harley's and EFI system so any advice greatfully received.

Strange - but worth a try! My Bantam does this if it's running with the petrol tap switched off - the less petrol to feed it, the faster it goes.

Don't suppose it is but you never know!

Loose battery lead can give strange running problems on fuel injection bikes, worth look.

    Re: Engine runaway

    No codes showing.
    Doesn't have a petrol tap.
    Battery lead ok.
What throttle position sensor? Surely if the throttle is closed and butterfly valve is closed it shouldn't run fast.
It had not been started for a month or so and back then it ran ok.
Have to dig the manual out and have a look.

    Re: Engine runaway

Throttle position sensor (bit like a volume control) communicates with the engine management computer and controls how much fuel squirts into the engine......in simple terms. This is in-dependant from the butterfly controling the air. On a carburetted bike the butterfly also controls the vacuum that pulls the fuel in.

Vacuum pipe may have come off, or might be damaged. Very common.
