    Twin cam close call...

I came perilously close to selling my Slim S this weekend. It was advertised on eBay and had a few watchers along with a couple of - what could have been - proper buyers who sent serious sounding PMs.

This has happened before; being in a business that is affected by the vagaries of the political ambience, a few of my Harleys have been seen off. They have been replaced – eventually, but this time it was different: The Slim was meant to be a pre/post retirement keeper.
The children, now being independent, suck less out of income so a near-on £20K bike seemed do-able and would be part of the family for the rest of my life, at least. Replacing it as a retiree didn’t sound like a possibility to me. Thanks David Cameron/Boris Johnson/Nigel Farage etc.

So, as I have the Shovel (that hasn’t seen the light of day for three years, and may yet take three more to complete) it was decided for me that the FLSS should go, with a heavy heart and the promise of a new bike when (if..?) things get back to ‘normal’, I placed the Ad.
Duly, I wheeled the bike out of the garage for the death-wash and polish. Mind full that there could be a couple of viewers turning up sometime soon I washed and blow dried the bike and started polishing. The sun came out and I found it necessary to wipe a bead of sweat from my brow. During this exercise, a speck of polish fell from my hand into my eye. At that point my wife arrived on the scene, I was aware of her presence because the temperature dropped a little and the birds had stopped singing.
To her credit, she allowed me time to compose myself and wipe the tear from my eye before she approached and asked if I wanted a drink. As an aside, she asked what it was that made me so attached to this bike. Fifteen minutes later she left to make the tea.

When she returned, she gave me the mug of tea and uttered the immortal words: “you can keep the bike, cancel the advert”!

Now, this is the second act of uncharacteristic, motorcycle related kindness she has shown in the last few weeks. I searched her face for a hint of menace, there was none. Why did she do this? No idea. Maybe kicking her Class A addiction has mellowed her and liberated funds? Maybe there is a guilty secret she is hoping to conceal and compensate for? Who cares?! I keep my bike!
So, if you are one of the hopefuls I disappointed when I cancelled the Ad – sincere apologies.

Maybe my time at RADA wasn’t wasted after all…

Moved to Beer Tent; not just cos it ain't tech, but also cos it's worthy of a wider audience.

Think many of us have been there.......

"They" file everything away until the day it can be used to best advantage - you can't win so treat it like that Mel Gibson Apocolyptic-ie film and run as far as you can before the hunters come after you....

When in danger or in doubt, run in circles scream and shout!

A common mistake made when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.
