    Fort ojibwa

    Robbed from our FB group

If you were around the Bradford area post World War 2 to some 35 years ago you'd have probably heard of the house on this postcard - Fort Ojibwa. It belonged to a character called Bill Ellison who was an American Indian reenactor in the days when such things were unheard of. He died in the early 1980s and his funeral was quite a spectacle. Apart from his collection of recreated Wild West relics and outfits it was always said by the locals that he rode Harleys and/or Indian motorcycles although I never heard anything definite on that. So I was quite surprised to read in one of our online Quins the other day that back in the 70s the Northern Area meeting of the Riders Club was regularly held at his house. Any of the older Members remember him?

Yup!! he was one of the club's "characters", active when I joined and I recall he had a complete alter-ego identity as a red indian, possibly with a chosen tribes permission. Not sure who on here would remember him, he'd have been an old mate of Ken Lee and John Andrew (amoung others) and MUST have been well known to Dave Kiberd? Funnily enough today I was mentioning one of Bill's mates Jim Adams because Jim had fitted an arm chair to his knuckle! (would surely have known Pip Lawrence of Baildon/Shipley fame)

    Those Americans!

When in danger or in doubt, run in circles scream and shout!

A common mistake made when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

Now you know why I called him a "club character"!
(there were several folks who put a Sunbeam S7 front end on their Forty-five to make a "poor mans Hydra" back in the early days)
