If you have a good dealer, that will stand by you, go for it.
Ive had my glide 5 yrs from new.
    Nowts gone tits up yet.
Do all my own basic servicing.
Then again, it was the last of the twin cams,
And after 15 yrs plus production they had managed to rectify most faults by then.
If it was me, on a new M8, with all the "potential" issues,
    I would get the warrenty.

Well so far the dealer's been excellent (as they always are when they're trying to sell you something ;)) but I've also never heard a bad word about them (Harleyworld). Isn't the warranty with Harley though and not the dealer? For 5 years it's £798

Do they do yearly extended warranties like you can get with cars though?

Its up to the dealer to push the claim.
Some are better than others, shall we say.

Re: Just ordered a Road King, have a couple of questions.

As one who worries about loud pipes, I'm always careful how I use my V&H equipped bikes in and out of the neighborhood for the last ten or so years.

I've never had any complaints (maybe 6"1" tall and 20st puts them off? but if they knew me they'd know I'm more than approachable), in fact I've only ever had compliments - as in, "that's how a bike should sound".

Same as me Mike, I used to have all the neighbors come out when my mates came round for a meet/coffee then ride off somewhere, they loved the sound and said it was much better than the pizza delivery boy the night before.

howdoo snerkler, i bet after reading of all the issues you wish you'd have gone for a bmw/honda or the like

i'm not a betting man but i'd wager a mars bar (fun size) that when you ride it away from the dealer you'll have a grin a mile wide and go home the long way. i've only been riding harleys since 2003 so a relative newbie and i'm no snob but there's something gets me every time i fire one of them up and set off somewhere. no bike i've had has come close apart from by old bonnie.

Lol, they don’t bother me tbh it’s not the first vehicle I will have owned that’s had recalls and the like. The clutch one sounds scary if you can’t disengage the clutch, but my bike falls outside of the recall batch. The dealer has advised me that my bike should have had the vent done at factory, but if not they will fit it before I collect it. They’ve also said they’ll put the extended brake pedal on that I’ve just bought before I collect it so that saves me having to source some tools

I’m really looking forward to it I must say, I’ve been out of biking for too long. It’s going to be a bit odd not taking it out all year round but I’m sure I’ll cope ;)
