    Exhaust Actuator cable

I have looked at other posts that suggest that this cable can be removed with the actuator with no real difference to the bike's performance. I have some old V&H mufflers on a standard exhaust system K&N filter with an FP3 on an 09 RK. I am asking this as since removing the exhaust to put new bolts into the gearbox casing (which had come loose) the cable does not seem to work the valve anymore and I do get a popping on throttling down which I didn't have before. I plan to do a proper autotune with the FP3 to get the bike running at its best with the current set up and my riding preferences, but what happens with the valve if the cable is removed. Does it remain open or flap about and if so is that a problem?

The great way is not difficult for those who have no preferences

Lock the valve open if you want noise, leave it shut if you want quiet. You can wire it open, or drill and pin it open.

I remove them all the time along with the motor. You have to lock the valve open or else the spring will keep it closed. I break the spring (easy to do) pull the spring out from behind the valve with a pair of pliers and then tack weld the valve in the open position. I don't work with the FP3 so I don't know if you can eliminate the valve in the software. If not then you'll display a code ...

It's a flap in the exhaust Ian. It actuates at certain revs and opens and closes.
On my 2015 Street Glide it's under the RH side cover, easy to disconnect, self tapper to keep it open.
I use an FP3, no errors (yet)

    It's for noise regulations

    https://youtu.be/15XqVMKo_QU

Developed by Harley-Davidson Motor Co. to reduce sound and noise emissions produced by their line of motorcycles, the Active Intake Control (AIC) system is an electronically controlled servo that opens and closes a valve in the intake chamber according to preset engine speeds. The Active Intake Control works together with the Active Exhaust Control system.

    Emissions Requirements

Working in accordance to meet higher emissions standards introduced by the European Commission and the Association des Constructeurs Europeens de Motocycles (ACEM) in 2008, Harley-Davidson began to implement the Active Intake Control and the Active Exhaust Control systems in their international motorcycle models.

    Function

The purpose of the Active Intake System (AIS) is to lower the amount of sound, or noise, emitted by the motorcycle by regulating the intake of air into the motor. The AIS is composed of a valve and a servo that is controlled by the motorcycle's Electronic Control Module (ECM).

    Operation

At idle, the AIS valve is closed, restricting the amount of air allowed into the motor to a minimum and lowering the sound levels of the exhaust. As the engine speed increases, the ECM sends a signal to the servo, which opens the valve and allows more air into the motor to meet the required air/fuel ratio for higher performance demands.

Yes AIS I understand but what does the valve on the exhaust do?
Also is it only fitted to standard Harley exhausts?
To me it just looks like it makes the exhaust leaky!!

The "active exhaust" is a system delivered into HD International Models designed to make the bikes pass the sound requirements in Europe
