    Mystery electrical component 1981 flh80

Currently tearing down my 1981 FLH80 to address a small number of issues that will ultimately have an impact on my paint. My right tank is leaking at the front/top mounting tab, and my non original horseshoe oil tank lower mounting tabs are fucked. Gonna need some welding of these painted items and have been contemplating a colour change for years so nows the time.
I generally know my way around the bike though my knowledge of electrics is poor. Years ago a bloke who took a look at the bike noticed this small machined nylon box containing a bundle of components on an electric board. He didn't know what it is and neither do I. Someone somewhere has taken the time to make the little box to protect its delicate contents.

It has 3 wires that emerge from the box as follows:
1 black wire connects to the battery negative terminal. 1 red and black wire connects to the top ignition coil terminal, another red and black wire connects to a pair of red wires that seperate at the headstock and one red wire goes to each of the handlebar swithcgear. Thes 2 red wires that run from the box to the switchgear are paired with black wires that do not connect to anything near the battery at all - what they do in the switchgear is unknown at present.

What I am looking for is the answer to what the contents of this box are and what they do.
Any advice welcome and thanks in advance. I was not able to post an image as a non member.

Hope you are all keeping well and avoiding the plague.

    Hodgie

    Eyup Hodgie, how goes it?

Have you a kicker fitted and if so will it fire with no battery connected ? As it may be a power box enabling the bike to run with no battery i think where the wires split at the bars one will go to the kill switch if fitted and the other to the ignition switch... ooooh me head lectrickery.

Looks a bit like a load equaliser for the indicators, if after market ones were fitted. Bit strange to be wired into the coil though, that suggests a rev counter trigger or something.
