Fingers crossed that this could be one occasion when us being marginalised might play in our favour.....for a while at least?
..for a while at least. The future for the internal combustion engine motorcycle looks grim. By 2040 there'll be very few i/c engine cars left on the road, so they won't be keeping petrol stations open just for us. We'd need to buy petrol for our bikes like we did paraffin (if old enough, you'll remember that!). I envisage If you are still a diehard petrol biker in 2040 you'll only be allowed to take it out for specialist events (you'd need a special permit to use it on public roads). Which in all probability will be limited in numbers. The very rich with classic cars will get first dibs on those. If you want (are forced) to have electric, hopefully future battery technology will allow a 200 mile range with a 10 minute recharge. But by then I won't be worried; I'll be visiting these specialist events on my mobility scooter. Future generations will look back at this period and be amazed at what we got away with. Make the most of what time we have left. Covid permitting!
Looks like Neil Peart's grim vision of the future, in the Rush song 'Red Barchetta', will come to pass.
All we can do (have a duty to do, in fact), is live the life as well as we can, for as long as we can.
