A strong solution of motorcycle or car cleaner may remove it.
After that S100 Engine Brightener will make it look new.

If you search this you will find a lot of answers, I use Back to black...black in a flash..aldi/lidl own make cockpit shine...they all work well...as does S100, only thats 8 quid a can as opposed to around a £.

I assumed Nick was looking for something to maintain a black engine finish, paint is for repairing ie touching up flaking powdercoat...but I could be wrong.

S100, you can get it at HD dealership, well priced, spray it on your black engine and barrels etc and comes up looking like almost new.

Stands up to heat as well, since doing mine have done 1604 miles over one weekend and then loads of riding since - still looking the beezkneez

    Cheers, Roy

Probably not, I don't think I've ever been right about anything, not on here anyway .

I have used both back-to-black and WD40. Use a toothbrush to get in all the corners.

    Re: engine black

I have been looking at this thread with interest as the Black on my engine looks bloody awful and I wasn't to keen on getting a pot of paint out and brushing it on.

During my travels today at work I called in to a HD Dealer and just under £11 came out with a tin of S100 Engine Black/Brightner.

Well I have just used it and bloody hell looks like a new engine with minimum effort, no mess and only 1/3 of the tin used. Even the fins on the barrels look as good as new.

Ok just under £11 but I can't get bladdered with a good curry afterwards for that so in my opinion good value.
