One old country song I have always loved (should that be "ol' countree sang"?) is "Sweet Dreams" - written by the great Don Gibson and sung very well by him BUT covered achingly beautifully by the faultless voiced Patsy Cline. However I stumbled upon this version sung solo by The Mavericks Raul Malo and though I still love Patsy's best this is a peerless rendition. (play these with "Reconsider Me" by Margaret Lewis followed by "Way we make a broken heart" by Rosanne Cash and your'll be crying your eyes out!)

(update - don't know how I could have forgotten to mention the heart-rendering version by Tommy McLain, easily found on YouTube, doh!)

While I always liked The Embers original, I have recently stumbled upon the "punkabilly" Cramps version of "I walked all night" and found myself really enjoying the rawness and live gig style of their rendition. (bit like Eddie Cochran and the first "Lets Get Together" version of the cleaned up "C'mon Everybody"?)

(by the way Rod, thanks for introducing Billy Joe to me)

Re: Dunno bout you, but Im listening to......?

'The Blue Carbuncle' I read in the third grade, age 9. I've been a Private Investigator ever since.
I was doing a comparative of the film versions of this tale by Cushing, Rathbone, Brett, et al. when I came across this,

Now this is something like! Readings by Rathbone himself. I've gone through the readings by David Clark and Steven Fry but I'm having a devil of a time finding this recording on the publik access portion of the net. Any ideas? I'd offer to trade library card #'s but conditions may apply and your mileage may vary.
Betimes I prefer listening to audio books when I'm tearing about the house looking for the answer to The Riddle of the Universe (42) and The Screen doesn't require my attentions. And it isn't music I want in my ears.

And on that same line, someone has begun putting up Shelby Foote's magnum opus, 'The Civil War, A Narrative'. Read by someone who sounds very much like the American actor Jason Robards, an excellent voicing for that topic; for any of you lot what take an interest in that sort of thing. Enjoy.

and as long as I'm posting links half-way round the world, here's the coolestist weather reporting site I've ever come across yet. The link puts you on the 10-day outlook page. Slide your cursor over the graph. Neat-o. Change the reporting station (upper left corner) to what you like. And few ads and no barking pop-ups. Or jabber neither. Radar is on 'Today' page.

and if you like the 'Trinity' spagetti-os westerns (Terrance Hill/Bud Spencer) series this is the best recording I've found of this one. Prime in fact. The resturante scene still nearly kills me............ and that wild confessional!!!!

When in danger or in doubt, run in circles scream and shout!

A common mistake made when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.
